The fifth female artist I will be looking at is Rihanna. She is known for her R&B and Pop music. Her number one song on Spotify is Needed Me.
Stereotype
In this music video, Rihanna is seen wearing a sheer/see through dress as she walks around a mansion and pool. She plays into the stereotype that women show off their bodies for attention. Other women are also seen in a strip club showing off their dancing and performance skills while showing nudity. While the women are dancing, men are seen watching them as entertainment. The men are also seen throwing money at the dancers as they dance in a sexual way on the stages. This goes along with the stereotype that women are to entertain and please men.
Counter Stereotype
One counter stereotype seen in this music video is at the end when Rihanna brings a fun into the strip club and points it at a man, who she presumably is talking about in the song. She then proceeds to shoot him while he attempts to throw money at her as if she if just another one of his dancers. This violence is counter stereotypical for women, as they are not normally seen as violent but instead as peaceful.
