Feminine:

  • Mel says she came to make sure that Jack was doing okay. This is showing sensitivity to others. Her care and concern for him truly shows.
  • Mel tells Jack that she saw him having a night terror, which can be caused by PTSD. This is her way of showing her care and concern for him.
  • Hope asks Jack to talk to Preacher because she says that Preacher will listen to her. This could be the difference because she is a woman and he is a man.

Masculine:

  • Jack is chopping wood. This is more of a manly thing to do because it represents physical labor, specifically outdoor labor, which is typically thought of as a men’s duty.
  • Jack is very protective of Mel and tells her that he will protect her from the drug growing farm workers.
  • Jack does not believe he was having a night terror because he sees that as more unmanly. Jack is very defensive and does not want to listen.
