Season 2, Episode 4, BoJack Horseman: “After the Party”

Bechdel Test: Pass or Fail?

  • Are there at least TWO women?
    • Diane
    • Princess Carolyn
    • Wanda
  • Do they talk to each other?
    • Yes, briefly
  • Do they talk about something other than a man?
    • Nope :/

Why did it Pass/Fail?

  • This episode also fails, but just barely. Wanda and Diane talk to each other for like a minute, but only about whether or not a male celebrity is dead or not.

Other themes noticed:

  • Diane took Mr. Peanutbutter to some kind of female-led conference relating to gender in text and media for her birthday, and Diane seemed to be surprised that Mr. Peanutbutter enjoyed himself when they were there.
  • Keven was offended by being called a cowboy; he said he would rather have been called a cow-man. Kind of related to hyper-masculinity– cowboy isn’t “masculine” enough.
  • Diane worried about how old she was constantly in this episode. Is there a correlation to worrying about age and gender?
