“Truly Madly Deeply,” which I just discovered is not a cover or remake, is an incredibly sweet song written by the help of Ed Sheeran. “Truly Madly Deeply” really resembles another One Direction song, “Little Things,” because of the slow tempo and the meaning behind the words. For example, the lyrics,

“I’m just the underdog who finally got the girl
And I am not ashamed to tell it to the world,”

definitely relates to the fact that men, according to society, are expected to be “tough” and compete to be the best of the best. Normally, guys wouldn’t admit that they were the underdog, but this is refreshing for listeners because it shows the guy’s vulnerability. Another set of lyrics state:

“Should I put coffee and granola on a tray in bed
And wake you up with all the words that I still haven’t said?
And tender touches, just to show you how I feel
Or should I act so cool like it was no big deal?”

This set of lyrics is proof why One Direction had such a huge fan base. Most girls all over the world melt to the sound of these chivalrous actions, but a lot of men stick to the “I’m a tough guy” mantra and might “act so cool like it was no big deal,” like the lyrics say.

Besides the above traditional male roles that the Sex Role Theory states, there really is not much else to be interpreted within this song. This song is about unconditional love which our society ultimately craves, even though some males and females alike might shy away from it.
