This sweet song is about a complicated friendship between a girl and a guy. The guy seems to be unsure of whether or not the girl likes him in a romantic way, but he is too afraid to say anything in fear that she won’t feel the same way in return. In the end, the guy gets the courage to tell the girl that he will leave if she doesn’t feel a spark, but he doesn’t want to leave. The lines,

“Lean in when you laugh
We take photographs
There’s no music on
But we dance along”

indicate that their actions toward each other are very affectionate, but there is still that grey line between friends or something more. This song resembles One Direction’s fifth song, “Last First Kiss,” with the theme of uncertainty; the guy is trying to “man up,” like society says, by making the first move and attempting to establish what they are.

Sex Role Theory is not very apparent here as the man is very uncertain of the girl’s feelings.
