Relative Size
- All characters (other than the main character) are given the same size on the poster! Jane’s character is equal in size to the other male characters.
- There is something to be said about the fact that Jane is outnumbered by men on the poster by quite a lot. Four men are portrayed, yet only one woman.
Licensed Withdrawal
- Each character, regardless of gender, is looking straight at the camera so licensed withdrawal is not present in the poster.
Ritual of Subordination
- Jane is also posed a little to the side to show her shoulder, versus the rest of the characters who are facing straight towards the camera. The show of her shoulder could be considered suggestive.
I am actually quite impressed with this poster’s gender displays, it seems to give a sense of equality to the woman on the poster, even though she may be the only woman portrayed.
