I’ll be the first to admit I was very surprised to see that the song “Enchanted” written by artist Taylor Swift made it onto the country list I’ve been taking songs from. The song follows the emotions of the female artist after meeting a guy for the first time and essentially experiencing love at first sight. This song does have song feminine stereotypes within its lyrics.

Feminine Stereotypes

  •  “I’m wonderstruck, blushing all the way home”
    • This lyric expresses soft feminine emotion. The artist describes being shocked and the sense of blushing after meeting a guy which can be seen as a basic feminine emotion.
  • “I‘ll spend forever wondering if you knew, I was enchanted to meet you”
    • This lyric can be seen as a stereotypical feminine emotion/action in the sense that she constantly thinks about the boy she just met that has her feeling such naive emotions.
  • This is me praying that this was the very first page, Not where the storyline ends”
    • Similar to the lyrics before, these lyrics display the soft and childlike emotion that the artist is feeling. Emotions like these are seen as feminine stereotypes.
  • “Please don’t be in love with someone else, Please don’t have somebody waiting on you”
    • Highlighting the emotional feminine stereotypes, the lyrics here display how charmed the female was so quickly.

This song by Taylor Swift is filled with many feminine stereotypes, especially stereotypes found within younger women. These emotions include being naive and easily charmed by someone they just met. This song doesn’t necessarily fit country music stereotypes but definitely fits basic female stereotypes.
