H.O.L.Y.  by Florida Georgia Line

CHARACTERISTIC OF A COUNTRY SONG sung by a man

  • Women
  • Love

OVERVIEW

Sung by the band Florida Georgia Line, which some may consider not country, but it is up to individual listeners and what they believe. H.O.L.Y is about him singing how he is “high on loving you”, you meaning a woman, but also makes a connecting point with Christian faith such as baptism and demons. Relating this song to someone being saved. The woman in this song has the power in this relationship. I will be using the Sex-Role Theory by pulling femininity traits from the song.

Femininity examples throughout the song

Tender

“Like fire in my veins, you’re my ecstasy, you’re my ecstasy” This lyric is pointing at how much joy this woman brings to the man. He met her and the feeling just went throughout his whole body.

            Warm & Sympathetic

“You made the brightest days from the darkest nights” Just being there for someone on their darkest day. Making sure that no day will be dark against them and that she is there whenever and wherever. Very feminine for a man to be saying this, consider that they are normally portrayed as a hero and the knight in shining armor.

            Affectionate

“I’m high on loving you, high on loving you” High in this lyric can be taken in two different ways. One being religious as most of the song mentions very religious ideas. The second way to take this is when you are high in a sense of drug, you can be at peace or in bliss.
