CHARACTERISTIC OF A COUNTRY SONG sung by a man

  • Heartbreak
  • Love
  • Woman

OVERVIEW

Sung by the Luke Combs. The song is about how he got heartbroken by a woman when he was young. He is now saying that whoever loves him next will get what is left of him because he gave his best to his first woman. Some hear the lyrics and question why he can’t give his best to another girl. If he really gave his best and she didn’t love him the same, why should he be hurting this much? She didn’t deserve him, but someone else will love him for him. The woman isn’t really mentioned much but the reason he is where he is today is because of the heartbreak. If this song was a song by a woman, it would not have the same effect that it has being sung by Luke Combs. I will be using the Sex-Role Theory to pick out femininity traits throughout the song.

Femininity examples throughout the song

Feminine

“She broke my heart” Not stereotypical for a woman to break a man’s heart, but for a country song, it can be more common for this to happen. The way he reacts to it is more feminine than how a normal man reacts.

            Sympathetic

“Now all that’s left of me; Is beatin in this guitar” He is heartbroken, and he doesn’t know what to do with his life. This is not stereotypical for a man because they are supposed to be the ones that can get over a breakup. He wants to make people feel bad for him.

            Eagar to soothe hurt feelings

“I’m getting’ over her; A little more with every song” By playing his guitar he is slowly but surely getting over this woman who broke his heart.
