Toyota commercials were popular during this time of year and understandably so, with the creative advertisements they chose to use. This particular advertisement presented genie starring Kaley Cuoco, appear in front of the Toyota which a family of four had owned. The genie grants all of them wishes of talking animals’ endless chocolate, a career in space travel, and the brave position of a princess leading her army to battle. Finally, when it came to the fathers turn to wish for something he accidentally wished for endless supply of witches instead of wishes. He originally wanted the genie to grant him to lose weight and so the genie then was asked to help him with his first wish which she did by making him jog behind the Toyota with his exercise Chihuahua. This advertisement for the Toyota is cute and can appeal to many ages and genders. What I had noticed was the wishes were not extremely surprising based on the gender of the family members. The youngest son wanted to be the astronaut implying that an astronaut is a male dominant career. The little girl wanted animals to talk and for her to be a princess which is also stereo typical female desires. Along with the mother who wanted to be able to eat an endless amount of chocolate implying that she couldn’t before because she wanted to maintain her health but also her weight. She and the genie being thinner women also implies this is the female standard magical or not. The father plays a comedic role in this advertisement claiming he wants to lose weight and also endless amount of power where he thinks he doesn’t get enough from his everyday home life (being the last person to make a wish). He then asks for his wish to lose weight from the genie turns into him losing weight naturally with the motivational push from the genie and her dog. This commercial while relatable also presents unrealistic gender standards and roles presented in the characters appearance and wishes.
