Are there women in the episode:
- Katara
- Aunt Wu
- Meng
Do the women talk to each other:
- Katara and Aunt Wu talk to each other
Do they talk about something other than men:
- Katara and Aunt Wu talk to each other about the future as well as talk about Katara’s future lover
This episode is one where I think it passes the test, but I can also understand why it doesn’t pass the Bechdel Test. There were named women in the show, they did talk to each other, but the last part is the one where I’m on the fence for whether it passed or failed the Bechdel Test. Katara was talking to Aunt Wu about her future and one of the things that was brought up was Katara’s future lover was going to be a powerful bender. So they didn’t necessarily talk about a man, but they implied that it would be a man. But this episode had a village that Aunt Wu would tell everyone fortunes about their future and they believed her entirely which reminded me of Subjectivity. The villagers were influenced so much by Aunt Wu that it became part of their culture to trust her completely with their fortunes. In the episode, one of the villagers said that in the past a tradition was sending someone up to the volcano that was near the village to check if it was dormant or not. But ever since Aunt Wu came to the village, they got rid of that tradition entirely and now they listen to Aunt Wu’s fortunes. The village changed their entire culture because of Aunt Wu and her fortunes which reminded me of Subjectivity from class.
