Does this episode of Avatar the Last Airbender pass the Bechdel Test?

Are there women in the episode:

  • Katara
  • Toph
  • Ying
  • Suki

Do the women talk to each other:

  • Katara, Toph, and Ying talk to each other
  • Suki, Katara, and Toph talk to each other

Do they talk about something other than men:

  • Katara, Toph, and Ying talk to each other about getting to Ba Sing Se safely and the route that was offered was to go through Serpent’s Path which is dangerous
  • Suki, Katara, and Toph talk to each other about everything that has happened to them since they last saw each other and how the Kyoshi warriors are trying to help out the refugees the best way they can

This episode does pass the Bechdel Test as it has a character that we haven’t really seen since the beginning of the first season, Suki. Suki and the other Kyoshi warriors are helping refugees from the war get safely to Ba Sing Se so that they can try and find a new life for themselves. But Suki does help Team Avatar cross the dangerous Serpent’s Path plus they are travelling with some refugees that are hoping to get to Ba Sing Se before Ying has her baby. In this episode, we saw Katara go into a motherly role when Ying has her baby after they get through Serpent’s Path with Team Avatar listening to whatever Katara told them to get/help with the delivery of the baby. So even though Katara showed some motherly traits by helping Ying have her baby, she still showed some masculine traits by being a leader and having others listen to what she says so that the baby can be delivered safely and healthy
