I am analyzing the most viewed Bollywood music videos on YouTube using the Sex Role Perspective. While analyzing with the Sex Role Perspective, I will utilize the items for evaluating masculinity and femininity as presented by Hyde (1995, p. 134), and these specific items will be italicized. In this post, I will be discussing the music video for “Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi” by Hrithik Roshan.

Evaluating Masculinity
- Reinforcing stereotypes
- In the opening scene, the main male character walks outside with a business posse, wearing a suit and tie and sunglasses. This scene portrays him as being dominant, assertive, and ambitious and shows that he acts as a leader.
- The main male character is portrayed as independent and self-reliant, as he is assumably a successful business man and is often out alone.
- Resisting stereotypes
- When the female character tells him that bicycles are better than cars, the male character rides a children’s bike around town. This action portrays him as yielding to the female character and also childlike, on a too small bike that a little boy soon runs up to take back from him. The cheerful interaction with the little boy also shows a love for children from the male character.
- The male character is a bit shy and soft-spoken when with the female character.
- The male character is affectionate, tender, warm, and cheerful towards the female character. He organizes surprises for her, embraces her affectionately, and is always smiling at her.

- The female character is a busy party planner, seen always working with a group of colleagues. This shows that she is ambitious, self-sufficient, and also has leadership ability, as she can be seen leading this group of colleagues.
