Song: “These Days” (click here for lyrics)
Artist: Jess Glynne
Overall Message:
〉This song is about how two partners who were in a relationship are left with broken hearts but there is hope that they can be civil. Even though the breakup wasn’t pretty there is a sense of hope that one day they can reconcile and laugh about it.
Analyzing the Lyrics:
〉Stereotypical Feminine Traits
- Hopeful/Wishful: “We’ll wish we could come back to these days, these days”
- These lyrics are stating that there is for sure hope that one day they will reunite. She is implying that the other partner will wish to come back together but there is no way to tell if that will actually happen. Women tend to be looked at as wishing and hoping that a broken relationship will mend itself. Some people think that it takes women forever to get over someone, thus hoping and wishing for something good to happen.
〉Counterstereotypical Feminine Traits
- The only part of this song that was sung by Jess Glynne was the chorus. Therefore, there was not a lot of content to pull from. Overall, the meaning of this song was pretty stereotypical in that it is a typical breakup love song.
