Up next is the first Captain America film! This one is going to be analyzed a bit differently, as there is only one character portrayed on this poster.

Modern Shift/Licensed Withdrawal

  • Steve is shown looking away from the camera with a look of determination on his face. While this display is usually portrayed in women on the poster, there is a modern shift that allows the male counterpart in this case to be looked upon by the viewer

Function Ranking

  • This is the first major case I have seen of function ranking in the MCU posters so far. Steve is a WWII soldier, and the poster very blatantly portrays him in this executive role. His job is to fight, overpower, and be dominant, which is a masculine stereotype that is strongly displayed in this poster.

This poster allows more interpretation of male gender roles and displays than the previous posters, so it was fun to analyze!
