For my twentieth post to this portfolio, I think this is a great movie poster to end on.

Relative Size/Function Ranking

  • Captain Marvel takes the whole size of the poster, she is the singular person on the poster and made out to be extremely significant.
  • Her suit shows off her strength rather than her body, and we can see the use of her powers as she is emitting energy from her hands in the poster. She is meant to be taken seriously and her power is meant to be recognized by the viewer

Modern Shift

  • Captain Marvel is the main hero in this film, and she is portrayed in the same way that male superheroes have historically been portrayed.

Licensed Withdrawal

  • Captain Marvel looks directly at the camera, with a very serious look on her face. In past posters, women have been shown either looking away from the camera or with a slight smile on their faces. In this poster, the woman is shown to intimidate the viewer of the poster, and to assert her authority as the hero.

We can really see the progression that Marvel has made throughout the years in presenting female characters as equal and heroic. There is still a lot of work to do, but I will give credit where credit is due.
