The 18th song I will be looking at is “Fireproof” off of the album Four. This song describes a long term relationship that, when faced with conflict, always seems to make it out alright.

Evaluating Masculinity

While this song doesn’t say too much about masculinity, I would like to point out one lyric:

‘Cause nobody knows you, baby, the way I do
And nobody loves you, baby, the way I do”

While at first glance this isn’t a harmful thing to say, something about it just seems off to me. It almost seems like he is trying to separate their partner from every other relationship they have. I/m not sure though, it’s just a little thought.

Overall, it’s a cute song and I like that, in contrast to some of the other love songs I’ve listened to, it talks about the love in a long term relationship.
