I chose to analyze the music video for “Miss You” by Louis Tomlinson. In this music video both the men around the singer and the singer himself adhere to several male stereotypes. Among these stereotypes is the excessive drinking seen throughout this video. Most of the video takes place in bars and clubs so drinking in some amount is expected, however the amount or drinking in this video goes beyond what would be expected. This led to some rowdy behavior that adheres to the loud potentially destructive behavior with no consequences that could be stereotypically expected of young adult men. During the video the camera is routinely pointed up at the Louis and the group around him, this makes them appear larger than they are and makes the viewer feel like they are looking up at him, As far as where the video diverges from male stereotype is Louis at certain points is visibly upset, however when this becomes apparent his friends often force him back into the activity so he isn’t feeling it anymore. As far as gaze theory goes, women are seen in the music video and are dressed in attire that would be worn to clubs and bars, but there is no sense of their objectification or them being there to be the entertainment of the core men in the video. At one point an unknown male character does imitate the “make it rain” hand motion, but there is no evidence that they are in a strip club or a club of that sort.
