The next Justin Bieber song I will be analyzing is “One Less Lonely Girl” from his My World album which was released in 2009. The lyrics in this song provide examples of the stereotypical masculine and feminine traits. The theory I will be using to analyze the song is the sex-role perspective theory.
“How many bags you packed
Just to take ’em back tell me that
How many either or’s (but no more)
If you let me inside of your world
There’d be the one less lonely girl”
This is an example of stereotypically masculine traits. The traits that are described are assertiveness and dominance. Bieber is stating that the woman would be better off in life if he was in his life. He is being assertive by stating that she would not be lonely anymore if she would let him into her life. Biber is being dominant by saying he should be put into her life.
“Saw so many pretty faces (before I saw you you)
Now all I see is you
I’m coming for you (I’m coming for you)
No no
Don’t need these other pretty faces like I need you
And when you’re mine in the world”
This is an example of the stereotypical feminine trait. Bieber is showing that women are affectionate and are represented by their looks and their body type. Bieber is stating that the woman has the feminine look that every guy notices.
